Richard “Maserati Rick” Carter jr. was born as an heir to the infamous Detroit legend Maserati Rick and Tracy Cowan.  Maserati Rick was famously known in the city of Detroit as one of the biggest drug dealer in the 80s, although he made millions of dollars while living a flashy life style, it all tragically came to an end with his death while Richard Carter Jr. was just a young child.  Known for his flashy burial in a 16,500 Mercedes Benz casket, many thought Carter Jr. would follow in his fathers footsteps with a flashy lifestyle and a life of drug dealing.

However that was not what was in store for Richard Carter Jr.  Carter Jr. chose a different path with his father’s legendary ways in mind but with a music career.  Having a father like Maserati Rick, Carter Jr. faced many different obstacles growing up in Detroit.  Growing up without a father was devastating for Carter Jr., however he was faced with another obstacle at the age of 15 when his mother Tracey was faced with King Pin charges and sentenced to 20-to-30 years in prison.

Richard Carter the teenager had to quickly become a man, and allow his anger and frustration to drive him to break the cycle in his family and revive the name of his legendary father while making a name for himself.  Richard Carter Jr. became Maserati Rick Jr. and created a lane for himself in the rap game.

Carter may carry his father’s legendary street name, as well as his street creditability, but he is creating a legacy for himself with his different style of rap and street credit to back it up.  In 2005 Rick started realizing his talent and passion for music and began to take it serious while working with a long time friend Curtis.  A friend and mentor to Rick by the name of Terrence White taught Rick how to make beats, as well as the business side to the music industry.  Rick wanted to focus on staying true to who he is by writing about his own personal life experiences.  He knew he was different early into his career because he could back up what he was talking about.

Its not all about street credit to Maserati Rick Jr., he speaks and mentors the youth of Detroit with his motivational speaking engagements to make a difference in our youth as well as the city of Detroit.

Rick was influenced by his brother Kevin Carter who he looked up to and who inspired him to take his talents seriously and pursue them.  If you were to ask Rick who inspired him musically, of course you would get the greats such as, Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z, and Nas, but Rick has a greater purpose to be inspired; make a change, create an avenue for the youth of our city and to make sure his mother is well taken care of and for her never have a want or need.  Maserati Rick Jr. cant be summed up into a biography, take a look at the life of a living legend living in a legends footsteps………
